Cholesterol is a very useful nutrient to the body. Many important functions of the body are performed with this. But if you fail to maintain the level of the cholesterol then it may cause you a number of hazardous effects to the body.

The main function of cholesterol is to keep your body healthy as it produces Vitamin D, hormones, acids needed by the body and maintain the cell walls. Cholesterol is a lipid like alcoholic compound form in cell and transported to cell plasma. Cholesterol is found rich in poultry, fish, egg yolks, dairy products etc.Apart from this medication like mevacor and lipitor are helpful in reducing cholesterol.

Cholesterol: A boon

  1. It is the main constituent of the cell. Helps building and maintaining cell membrane.
  2. It plays an important role in biochemical process and syntheses the hormone which is needed for the growth of the person.
  3. It produces Vitamin D which helps in improving the immune system.
  4. It is useful in protecting the skin from sun.
  5. It is involved in the bile acids needed for digestion of the insoluble fats through food.
  6. Since this is insoluble in water and thus helps to circulate the Vitamin A and Vitamin E in the body.

Cholesterol: A curse

  • Due to the increased level of cholesterol in the body it will cause you to the disorder such as Atherosclerosis.
  • Blood circulation problems increase with the increase in the level of cholesterol.
  • Obesity can be threat when the cholesterol level increases.
  • If the cholesterol level increases at higher rate there may be risk of heart disorders.
  • It also hampers the flow of body to kidney, lungs and hearts.

Cholesterol thus has advantages and disadvantages on your health. So it is vital to control your cholesterol and keep your body healthy.
